Here's Bandit's x-ray. As her surgeon Richard said, there's so much metal in her leg now that we can put her on top of the TV and use her as an aerial - poor little Bandit! He said that once they physically got in to her leg, he saw that the break was even worse than it looked on the x-ray - a terrible spiral fracture, her leg was basically in splinters. Thankfully they didn't need to amputate as he managed to pin and wire it all together, he said that because she's so young it should heal up well. Apparently she is in good spirits, getting up and hobbling around, and being spoiled rotten by the vet nurses.
So she'll be home in a couple of weeks, which gives us time to sell our kidneys etc on eBay in order to pay for it all. Gary is a wreck, he feels so bad. He's taking me out to dinner tonight for my birthday - he had a big thing all planned for Sunday but of course we were busy with Bandit, and last night we had a heap of work to do at the fire station and felt too hot and tired to go out afterward (it's revoltingly hot and humid this week).
Vincent keeps looking for Bandit and is acting like a big sooky baby, wanting cuddles and playtime every five minutes. I put an old carpet down on the dusty dirt floor of the back verandah and he's slowly eating a few inches off it each night. It makes a very satisfying rrrrrrippp sound. When he gets tired of that he either goes and lies in the dead horse or digs holes in the new garden beds.
No real news or crazy stories - thank goodness! I hope Bandit gets sent home with lots of spare morphine, because I think we could all use some after all this...
