Lucky Lucky Me!

Finally - three days straight off work. Wandering around outside the compound with a piece of toast, I decided to get stuck into clearing out the rubbish piles. Over the past thirty years or so, people who have come out to live at the bush camp to enjoy the serenity and beauty of nature have thrown hundreds of plastic bottles, aspirin packets, food tins, socks, beer cans, broken toasters, car parts, cans of paint, prospecting tools and a dead horse into the pristine desert bush. There are piles of rubbish three feet high, and the wind has blown god knows how much of it all through the underbrush - it's appalling!

I was raking it all out from under the bushes when Gary came home for lunch and said, "Follow me in the ute, we'll go get the loader and the tipper truck." Yeah! So half an hour later Gary's got me up in the driver's seat of the massive loader (like a monster bulldozer) and shows me how to use it, and off I go. Yeehah! We had to knock down a couple of trees to get at the ENORMOUS piles of rubbish, which of course got us both excited - "What else can we knock down?" (Knocking down a tree with a bulldozer is bad, but very satisfying). Gaz took the lot to the tip while I dragged all the broken bracken & branches off to what Gary calls my "kraal", which is coming along surprisingly quickly.

The other great idea Gary has is to build a big biiiiiig BIG surrounding wall out of ginormous truck tyres, fill them with dirt, and plant stuff on top - awesome! We can get hundreds of truck tyres from Ronnie at Cashmans Station, about 60 km up the road. We can build anything!

Gaz has also been bringing presents home from the tip - we now have a perfectly good sofa, a dog pool, wiring for the house, security doors, big-ass spotlights for my bus and a complete toilet plumbing outlet system. I also found boxes and boxes of tools that George doesn't want - screwdrivers, hammers, god knows what. We will never have to go to Bunnings again.
