Flinders Ranges 3

We spend the day at our Parachilna site. A family of emus wanders through O.F.'s tent site and she fends off a stroppy teenage emu with her fossil hammer. I discover a thigh-deep water pool up the creek and have a refreshing dip. There's no one around and it's lovely to just wander up the shale strewn hills & gullies, snooze in the sun and watch all the birds. O.F. is a dynamo and builds a hot rock oven in between fossil fossicking while I lie around reading about mad Amazonian explorers.

Dinner is a gourmet extravaganza of hot rock steaks, sweet corn, potatoes, apples, a light Clare Valley rose and salad. Honey is now Camp Dog, lurking at the edge of the firelight & snatching any gnawed bones that the tribal elders fling into the darkness. We have pretty much stopped using cutlery.
