Just A Typical Meeka Madness Day

24 hours of random outback "what will happen next" - woke up with little Roo curled in a ball next to me & Gary in the bed, fed him and put him back in his hammock, spent the morning running my community care clients back and forth to the hospital, jamming them in the crappy white van like sardines with all their spare legs, wheelchairs etc, then catching up on diabetic foot care flashcards over lunch (hurrghh!). Came home, watered plants, cleared out the garage area ready for all the bikes and cars, and then just as we were winding down for the evening the phone went off and I had to go out to a car fire with the brigade.

Luckily the driver pulled over as soon as he saw smoke coming out of his bonnet - the car just MELTED. Totally destroyed, the tyres melted away completely. I had to help Cam pry the bonnet open with the big crowbar so that Tyler could get the hose spray into the engine block. It took about fifteen minutes, then we all headed back; it was only about twenty km out of town.

Woke up in the morning with a horrid migraine, barfing my guts out - probably a result of having seen the chiropractor just before doing all the heavy tool work on the road crash rescue course. Gary took me to the hospital and the emergency nurses put me on a drip with anti-nausea drugs and painkillers, I was fine after a couple of hours. You know a bloke loves you when he holds your hand as you convulse with retching projectile bile. The funny side of it was that Reese, our hospital chef, came into the accident ward with a nasty cut on his finger and was in the bed next to mine, so there we were with Reese bleeding all over the floor, me gagging into a sick bag, and Gary trying to find a comfortable testicle position in the chair by my bed, when Norm, our head of nursing (our main boss) came past, stopped in the doorway staring at us, shaking his head. "It's staff accident day!" I told him. "Great, the cream of my staff in the emergency ward!" he said.

Once again small town life proved its worth - all the hospital staff know me well, so I got fast and excellent treatment, no waiting, and of course lots of jokes. Gary took me home, stopping to get me chips and gravy and a KitKat bar on the way, and we all had a good lie down for the rest of the day. Right now Gary and Paul are sitting on the sofa, trying out Paul's gurka knife by slicing pieces of paper and talking about how you could chop an olive python in half with it (if you needed to). Smokey is on Mouse Hunt, Roo is in the yard, Dibbs (Paul's dog) is eating cardboard, Ethel is on the roof and Honey is snuffling up mouse poo from the floor. Another day in paradise.
