Roo Thinks He Knows What He's Doing

Roo is the funniest little critter. He's doing really well, spending lots of time in the roo yard out the back with Ethel. I scatter bush forage around for him to find, as well as a few carrot tidbits. He's less timid each day - last night when it was time to go to bed, he hopped right up to me and pawed at my skirt - "Mum! Pouch! Now!". His new bed is an esky lined with a quilt, but in the mornings I wrap him up in my bathrobe and stuff him into bed with us, which he really likes. He's started hopping after me wherever I go which is hysterical. Then some little thing gives him a fright and he nearly falls over, making a chittering "Mum! Mum!" noise.

He's developed proper round pellet roo poos which is a fantastic sign that he's thriving. During the day I go out and give him his milk formula feed from a little bowl, he lets me get right up to him now without panicking. He had a big day yesterday in the yard and slept in until about ten am, looking at me groggily from our bed. "You getting up or what? Lazy roo."

His tail is amazing. It's super strong, the meatiest part of his body, and to watch him bound around in the yard is just beautiful - he's so well designed! He looks all gangly and funny until he starts bounding, then his body makes sense. His little front paws are just divine, like little hands, and he clutches your arm or hand while he's feeding. We will have to decide what to do with him as he gets older, it will depend on how well I can get him to adapt to "real world" when he's big enough to go out of the compound. If he doesn't want to live wild, we will have to get him desexed or we'll have a six foot tall muscle-bound horny male boomer going berserk in the house. But his real mum has taught him well and he seems perfectly capable of living like a regular wild roo, so we try to balance the cuddling and playing with lots of "wild time" - he's not a pet or a toy, even though he just makes you go all gooey from cuteness. It won't be so cute when he tries to disembowel Gary in a fit of big red roo mating frenzy... look out Gaz!
