This evening at fire & rescue training we didn't do anything, but next week we are setting fire to stuff out at the tip, and maybe also a car! Whoo! Yeah! You immediately realise why the police should go first to any volunteer fire brigades when investigating arson, because who among us could resist setting fire to stuff and then putting it out with high powered hoses & state of the art fire equipment while wearing extremely cool fire fighting gear? Not me, that's for sure. Should I bring my own matches?
Proper training starts in March when the summer fire season is over. The courses are run all over the place, so we could end up at Kalbarri, Shark Bay, Cue, Mount Magnet, who knows? There will be an emphasis on road crash rescue this year, as the number of these incidents is increasing with all the road train & mining traffic. Try not to throw up during the powerpoint photo session!
It will be a welcome contrast to my life as Outback Sheila Stepford Wife. All the women I know, including me, are constantly cleaning, cooking, washing & grocery shopping. Gary cracks me up - apparently watching me washing up at the sink or making sandwiches is like some kind of erotic bachelor spectator sport. God knows what will happen when we both come home in fire fighting gear.
