Looks Like We Got Us A Convoy

Dammit we missed all the action! Around midnight last night in Geraldton, Gary got an SMS on his phone from emergency services - big roadtrain rollover 50 km north of Meeka, carrying ammonium nitrate (as in, BOOM!). If mixed with diesel, it's an explosive. Two fire & rescue crews (Meeka & Cue) got sent out, and a specialist hazchem team from Kalgoorlie had to come out as well. No injuries or fatalities thank goodness, but the highway was still closed when we got back into Meeka.

1 km out of town we had to stop because there were so many road trains backed up along the highway, on the sides of the highway, in the truck pullovers, at the roadhouse - any available space was filled with trucks & truckies waiting for the road to be cleared up ahead. The queue of trucks extended from 1km south to about 20 km north of town! We had to navigate past heaps of road trains in the side streets and in front of my place to get home. With all the traffic it was hard to find a spot to take any really good photos, but I did my best. There were over 200 road trains stuck in Meeka!

They've started to clear through now, it was pretty spectacular.

On the way up, we passed a family of emus at the side of the highway. Gary looks over at me and says in this Mr. Knowledge voice, "Oh, yes, that'd be that mob we passed on the other side on the way up." I looked at him for a moment, thinking, bullshit, how could he possibly know that? We're in the middle of nowhere and they all look the same. Then Gary realises the same thing, looks at me again and says, "I know all their names." I snorted and this led to uncontrollable snorting & giggling from both of us and we nearly drove off the road laughing. Now every hour or so if either of us looks at the other and says, "Emu", we go into idiot hysterics. No one else thinks this is funny.

Arrived home to find that Hazel hadn't shut the gate properly, so Honey had gone up to her place & Boy has gone walkabout again. We picked up Honey, had a quick drive through town, then gave up & went home - Boy will turn up again when he's had enough exploring. Smokey was snoozing with the chickens, who only managed to squeeze out 3 eggs in 3 days. I think Henrietta is having henopause.
