Just out of Gascoyne Junction we camped up wagon-circle style right out in the bush watching thunderheads build on the far horizon. We passed a big mob of wedgetail eagles eating a dead cow, such magnificent birds; it's "wow!" everytime you see them. The clay pans where we are camped are covered with animal tracks: bungarra, big kangaroos, snakes, feral cats. The bungarra tracks are a work of art: long, even wavy tail line with beautifully dileneated clawprints on either side.
Honey and Smokey will be locked up in the bus tonight; there's always the chance of dingos and wild dogs. Honey is turning into a bit of a wild dog herself; she spent ages burying a bone about 25 metres from our camp, then guarding it until bed time. She used her snout to push up a big pile of dirt over the bone and got really worked up whenever we pretended to walk in that direction.
Ian somehow produced a mouthwatering roast beef meal complete with gravy & damper using just a cast iron camp pot and a fire; it's wonderful sitting out under the stars watching the dry lightning in the distance. We were both really tired from all the mad packing & visitors at the trailer park so it was an early night.
