Smokey is back to his normal self on antibiotics - mild mystery infection, blood tests all good, he's home eating roast chicken & hanging around the shower block again. We all love him so much.
Packing up all our STUFF ready for the big Meeka caravan run & doing our town rounds, checkups at the clinic, bulk prescriptions, stocking up on supplies. Last night Johnny & Alice came over for beers n barbie, Johnny got out his guitar and we sang badly to various half remembered Rolling Stones tunes. Tonight's the big sendoff party; my new friend Chris from the vet clinic is coming along with Candy & Finn & god knows who else from around town. Some of the older trailer parkers said that it's a big bowls comp tonight so they might arrive at our party "a bit under the weather" (yeah, we've heard about those wild, crazy grey nomad bowls comp nights...)
Our campsite looks a shambles because people keep dropping by with drinks & food and naturally this is far more interesting than packing. Last night we ended up sleeping on the swag outside in the middle of the mess so we could look at the stars listening to my new ipod Nano setup.
Just as everyone told me, getting an ipod is a great, simple solution to CD's. CD's require you using one hand to insert them into a slot and pressing a play button - exhausting, especially when you compare it to the ease of reading the tiny, tiny Nano instructions, finding the right adaptor for the stereo deck, using your pinky to activate the miniature touch screen while holding the stereo deck in your other hand so that you can see the ant-like screen while using your third and fourth hands to tune the thing into the car stereo while also syncing the FM tuner and swearing & cussing until you realise that the volume isn't set right, then your friends come over and everyone wants to look at the Nano & it ends up lost in your handbag so that you have to resort to the CD with Kris Kristofferson singing Bobby F-ing McGeegeegeegeegeegee......
We'll be out of range for a few days now. The road to Meeka is reasonably well travelled so if the trailer or anything breaks down we have plenty of backup. YES we are taking heaps of water and fuel and have the CB radio. Fingers crossed we find a big gold nugget on the way there!
