Denham. Thursday? Wednesday? Is it July yet?
Camp chores. Duncan tidies up his cash from his roo gun locker (there are no banks out here) while I get out the monthly pet medication; I suddenly realise we are sitting in full view with the camp table covered in wads of $50 notes, Smokey's syringes, drug vials, a telescopic rifle and various gutting knives. Oops! It's not what it looks like Mr. Officer! At least it keeps the grey nomads from coming over to talk about the shower block heh heh heh.
Stock market shows signs of life so I get back into a bit of trade planning. Every day or so I get calls from old work mates thinking of hitting the road or leaving Melbourne & asking me what the day to day reality is like. Answer: you'll never regret it. There is heaps of work out here in WA, you're outdoors most of the time, it's laid back, no one cares what you're wearing, you can live on practically nothing, TV becomes totally irrelevant, it's never boring and you basically stop worrying about stuff.
It's not lonely at all; because you're outside or using communal facilities most of the time, there's always someone passing by to chat with and you end up sharing meals, swapping supplies, helping with a repair or just talking about fishing & dogs. No one needs to make time to catch up for a coffee; you end up going out in the tinny with your camping neighbour on the spur of the moment or wandering down to the beach to share sunset with whoever else is there.
Just do it!
