It Was Inevitable

Well of course now the chickens are in the house. Gary keeps chasing them out and I keep letting them in, because it's hilarious to watch them strolling sedately around the kitchen, clucking to themselves as if making comments on the interior decor. They also follow Honey around the yard, and sit next to Smokey. They seem to have a natural curiousity and hang around near us when we sit outside. Boy has calmed down around them but at the moment is missing on one of his town walkabouts; he'll either turn up at Paddy's or the Trenkk Mining yard - someone will bring him home or call us.

My plans of a tidy, scheduled and efficient renovation have become completely derailed as Rancho Loco takes its place - chooks in the kitchen, dogs snorting under the floorboards, half-built chook houses and other non-priority but interesting projects evolving randomly around the yard, Smokey sleeping on Gary's laptop, washing draped over a broomstick wedged across the tool shelves because of the rain, the world's longest grey water hose running through the house to the fenceline because the drain is still clogged, half a dozen Star Trek DVD's in the bed, and most recently Gary's project of tuning the TV into more channels than I think actually exist via an extremely long aerial lead which is draped over the front of the house across the front door. To watch all the channels, the TV has to sit on the kitchen bench, the front door has to be open, you have to crawl under the aerial lead past the fridges, and then not let the chickens bump the connection box on the floor. We're having a ball.

First day of work today - 8 hours at the aged care hostel, then off to Paddy's to get some rooms ready for the miners. The aged care residents are hysterical, a whole bunch of stories which I'll save for another post. Right now it's time to sit and watch the Dakar Rally so that Gary can fulfill his deep primal need to tell me rally car engine specs.
