Lordy me. These outback guys - tough on the outside, marshmallows inside. Gary had been a bit quiet for a couple of days and finally blurted out that he's scared of getting his heart broken "again". Comforting words and hugs set him straight and now he's all silly and happy (so am I). He used to go to the same cafe as me every day back in St Kilda, so we must have been within five feet of each other dozens of times back in Melbourne - but had to wait to be introduced to each other in the middle of the outback by a mad Scotsman, go figure. It feels good to be together.
On top of that, the dogs at Paddy's (Chris's pathetic giant rottweiler, Benson, and Cam's goofball dog Storm) were all sooky today so we had a big play session with them in the mess - dogs are welcome at the Veterans League, playing in the pool, running in the sprinklers, barging around the kitchen. Then a mate of Gary's needed us to go check on his dog out at the cattle yards while he's away, so we went out there to provide more dog cuddles for "Old Fella". We're dogged out!
THE AIR CONDITIONER IS ON! Even the electrician, Tony, didn't want to leave. We all just stood under it for ages going "Ohhhhhhhhhh....yeahhhhhhhhh....". The house is cool! Now the dogs can't even be dragged outside, they're passed out in the hallway moaning with happiness under the lovely cold air.
Gary's going to move in here at my place (well, he pretty much has moved in anyway) which I think will be really great. He loves going round looking for things to fix, talks to the dogs and is just great company all round. There are always jobs to do out at Paddy's, so he often comes with me and we potter around doing our stuff, then having a beer with Chris and wandering off to go exploring around town. Now that the air conditioner is working however I suspect we won't leave the house until April. How many times can you watch Star Trek without going mad?
