Boy was on his bed on the front porch this morning - apparently he went for a visit to Paddy's after roaming around town. Sometimes he goes to the pub! He'll always be a typical Meeka town dog.
The fire station got broken into the other night - the door opens inwards, but they pried it open outwards with one hell of a crowbar or something, and took the brand new satellite phone. This is beyond stupid, as they can't use the phone; if they try, they'll get GPS'd and caught. As usual, everyone is pretty sure which kids did it but without hard evidence there is nothing the cops can do. The little bastards cut the wires to the security cameras before breaking in, and shut off the power as well - so no fire alarm calls could get through. This is at a time when bush fires are raging within 100 km of Meeka.
People in the town have tried so many things to solve the youth crime problem. One of the power line maintenance guys had a bunch of his stuff stolen, so he went down to Consuls Road and disconnected everyone's power, saying it would stay off until they brought his stuff back. It was returned the next day.
The shire set up a youth recreation centre - the kids trashed it instead of using it. If anyone tries to set up a town meeting with aboriginal and white residents about the problem, the aboriginals go nuts and complain that it's racism and go trash some more stuff.
There's a nightly curfew, but there are so many kids out on the loose that there aren't enough people and vehicles to patrol & enforce the curfew! Besides which, they'd just be returning the kids to homes where the parents are violently drunk.
When you leave your house, at any time of day, here's what you have to do:
Lock all the doors, windows and security screens
Hide anything portable - laptops, cameras, phones, TV, etc
Turn lights on
Turn radio on
Put dogs in the front yard
Lock every gate, shed and check all the fences
Make sure any parked vehicles are out of range of rocks
Make sure any animals are out of range of rocks
Make sure the sensor-operated machine guns are ammo'd up
Release the panther
