Who needs a yacht? My embarrassing inflatable boat, "SeaHawk II", which I got via the internet for $99.98, has just given me a perfect day of floating & snoozing on the Gascoyne River. Sure, you get a wet ass, the oars slowly become unscrewed as you row along and from a tiger shark's point of view it looks exactly like a delicious whale liver, but so what? It only takes ten minutes to inflate it with the compressor and unlike a yacht the only maintenance you need to do is throw it away and get another one.
Honey and I rowed to the end of Chinaman's Pool and then drifted back, nibbling on lunch & dozing off until we ran aground at our starting point. Not a soul in sight, just ospreys, honeyeaters and cranes, plus lots of little fish. A refreshing swim, more snoozing, then back to the bus for a snooze. The dogs have all been locked out of the water tank house after helping Duncan too much with the tiling.
Popping in to see how Duncan was going I got chased by Kenny the alpaca (he really hates my hat!) but made it to the door in time. Greg says it is probably time for Kenny to have a Little Operation as he is becoming overly alpaca-ish & thinks he owns the place. No one is safe! Halfa Cat, the kitten, has a horrid infestation of poultry fleas so I spent half an hour tweezering them out of her little ears (they burrow into flesh and lay their eggs under the skin, EWWWW).
The river has many channels and is usually "dry" (it flows underground); it covers a huge area and is surrounded by levee banks with walking tracks, so I took Fat Roadhouse Sausage Dog for a really long bike adventure. You can pretty much follow the dirt tracks right into "downtown" (one block of shops) while being in the bush the whole time, it's gorgeous.
