Lliving with Llamas

The Waggin' Trail circus is now camped up next to a HUGE concrete water tank which has been converted into a house - it's astonishing! I'll post photos tomorrow. It's just off a dirt track along the Gascoyne River in Carnarvon. Duncan's doing the plumbing fitout for it. It's on a great big block of land (rural) and we are living with:

Kenny and Matilda, the alpacas; Hurley and Bonnie, the dogs; Halfa Cat, the kitten, plus several other cats and chickens. Honey and Smokey fit right in. It is a hilarious motley straggle of animals all wandering about happily together. Kenny makes this weird congested whining moaning noise and occasionally tries to hump poor Matilda, which sets Hurley off barking, which sets the roosters off, then Greg shouts at them and it's quiet again for half an hour. The alpacas are curious, with wicked intelligent gleaming eyes. If Kenny takes a dislike to you he puts his ears back, pushes out his chest, then rams you. "At least we've got him to stop spitting" says Greg. When new people arrive, someone has to stand guard against the alpacas in case they attack.

Next to the bus is a dirt path that takes you to Chinaman's Pool, which is one of the few deep parts of the river that retains water in the dry season; it's incredibly beautiful, lined with river gums and sandy banks, so I'll be inflating my rowboat in the morning and going fishing & snoozing. I think Duncan will be here all week but in a few days I am going to head off to Exmouth to go on a snorkel trip off the Muiron Islands, then possibly check out Point Samson and the Dampier Archipelago, depending on what we might be doing work wise - Duncan keeps getting all these amazing job offers and it's hard to decide which ones to take up first!

So here we are sitting watching another mindblowing sunset, lulled by the soporific sounds of the river birds and alpacas humping in the night.
