As we set off for Geraldton on a chores run, Duncan cheerfully said "Hey this will be a good couple test thing, going shopping together!" which as most of you will realise translates as "I am in a state of complete anxiety and panic!" My response was "I'm sure everything will be fine!" (as in, "It will be fine if I can find some heavy narcotics in my handbag!")
As two former bachelor hermit types with a total of zero interdependent relationship experience or skills, we were looking forward to this opportunity to grow and learn together as a couple with mature, open communication, working as a team while maintaining our adult independence.
So after two days of town chores we gleaned some useful insights into our relationship, mainly that if we ever try to go shopping together again we will try to eviscerate each other.
We blew a tyre and ran out of diesel on the way home, so by the time we got back we were ferociously not talking and marched off in opposite directions to drink hard liquor alone in our caves. The situation was not improved by my discovery that a herd of dysentry-ridden bison had used the men's shower block in my absence, but we were able to laugh it all off the next morning after making a pact that we will never, ever go and do shopping chores together again under any circumstances, particularly any chores involving a discussion about clip-on gas vent louvres in Bunnings.
So today we are back to our normal chores, including the weekly courtesy search for any dead bodies behind the toilet block (we do this because there is no possible way that anyone could survive whatever bowel-shearing expulsion caused the smell and mess in cubicle 2). The relocation to our bush camp behind the biocycle plant is going well, with today's highlight being dragging the abandoned cars out of the way and discovering an old snake nest/pit thing full of mouse skulls.
