Enhancing her trademark action drawing style with innovative multiple colour techniques, this expressionist work clearly illustrates the artist's thematic exploration of the relationship between objects and their inner relevance. WT fans will be quick to recognise, on the left, Honey, her green fur echoing her place in the sage tones of the outback bush; her large size, cleverly portrayed in an overhead schematic, reflects Honey's importance to both the artist and the birthday card recipient.
To the right of course is the bus itself, its simple lines and small size representing its less important figurative presence now that the WT team have camped up in a conventional house.
In dishevelled glory in the centre of the image we see Anna, the dynamic lines and bright colours capturing her joy and happiness at turning 49. Her large yellow hands wittily draw the viewer's attention to themes of renovation, painting and "handywork", while her wild hairstyle again reminds us of this artist's eerie ability to recreate reality with almost scientific precision. The absence of feet naturally resonate with metaphors of place, rootedness and a pause in motion, while brilliantly juxtaposing the notion of visible/invisible and the potential of feet as a philosophical conundrum.
