Well despite my wildly overdramatic expectations all we got was a heap 'o' rain and strong winds. My Rancho Loco boards blew over but that was easy to fix. The chooks got a bit soggy and spent the night sitting in the kitchen doorway (they didn't want to come all the way in for some reason). Smokey took shelter in a box under the kitchen sink (sensible), and contributed to our food security by catching a mouse (he wouldn't let me go to sleep until I got up, inspected it, thanked him and put it in the bin - he was very satisfied with this response). The dogs snored and farted and then tried to get into the bed at about four am, then farted some more and wandered off outside (thanks for the lingering smell).
Aha, the road trains have just fired up (they've been sitting in town all morning) which means the highway's been re-opened, although I bet there's a lot of flooding to come. We're off to the pub shortly for The World's Greatest Shave - charity event to raise money for cancer research or something that the government should be paying for rather than spending our taxes on stupid fighter jets etc - apparently it's a bit of an event in town, Gary's been hairying himself up for three weeks in preparation. Maybe I'll take Honey, she needs a shave!
With the creek up and the ground all soggy it was a great opportunity to go and raid nature for some more plants, I got a big sackful of beautiful native stuff. I noticed across the creek from my place that Doray Minerals have been in marking off the area for their 100-person workers' camp that is allegedly being built "soon". They've had some holdups with planning - they're going to have to build their own sewage treatment plant and power station, as the town systems aren't big enough to incorporate the camp's requirements.
After the shave-off Gary's going to help me cut out the lounge room wall - why not spend the afternoon having a few beers and then operating dangerous high speed cutting tools? That's if he's not too grumpy, honestly why do men get so cranky? Too much work, not enough sleep, living on tins of beans, then mystified as to why they don't feel so great. Snap out of it Gary! With 100 lonely miners moving in across the road, a woman with a fridge full of beer could easily be led astray. Oh I'm so bad
