More 4WD exploring - forgot to take the camera! Old cattle tanks, incredible scenery, a place called The Breakaways, a (rare) natural feature - a sort of sheltered gorge where locals go camping. No human sounds - just the wind in the mulga trees, birds everywhere.
Gary took me out to dinner at The Commie last night and we met this mad couple who do "extreme walking" - setting & challenging records for walks across parts of the outback. Their car broke down so they're in town for repairs. Joy is the support driver while Paul does the walk. I introduced them to Cam (he wants to walk across Australia with a friend next year).
Hung out afterwards at Paddy's Flat with Gaz, Cam, Monica and Chris. Gary showed me through all the veterans' memorabilia that they've put together - Gary's navy cap, Cam's foreign legion medals, Chris's Vietnam patches. They are very sentimental about their service days; part of the collection are things their fathers wore in earlier wars - a very old (and itchy!) Scottish regimental beret, an Australian Light Horse hat from the first world war (I think a bloke wore the hat, not a horse).
