This is the funniest Christmas I've had so far. Christmas Eve afternoon Gary came round and we sat in the pool with the improvised floating drinks tray before heading off to the police Christmas do at Paddy's Flat. They'd got hold of a pizza oven & laid on some great food, with young copper Rob bringing us drinks and snack trays.
We pretty much stayed in the pool until dinner time, a hot lizardy wind drying us out into handbag material as soon as we got out of the water. The Tall Man was there - Ray, who is a mad, mad Canadian prospector from Saskatoon, and (as his name suggests) is very tall. The police girlfriends all turned up looking glam & laid on the turkey fixin's, then the crackers & hats came out, then a Santa pinata (old outback tradition of some kind???). The cops started off with a cardboard tube as the hitting implement, but this didn't produce the desired results and so they got out the nightsticks. Gary and I, having had a bit too much beer, were loudly encouraging the use of the tasers and Glocks, which was exuberantly welcomed but not acted upon, which is probably a good thing. The nightstick was effective, although disturbing. Note to self: avoid Meeka lockup if possible.
Naturally this all led to throwing people in the pool and about midnight us old folks left the youths to their shenanigans while we went home to watch Clint Eastwood movies & take aspirin in Gary's airconditioned TV room, which is where I woke up. He had to put on his firefighting uniform in the morning, could you ask for a better Christmas present?
