This Week's Trailer Park Movie Review

"10.5" is possibly the worst made-for-TV movie of this decade; be sure to hire it if you are staying at the Batavia Coast ("Give Us A Hand - Fried or Grilled") Caravan Park. This earthquake movie has it all - bad CGI, hastily-constructed models, Fred Ward casually lugging nuclear warheads around like they're white goods, and, in an inexplicable casting decision, Beau Bridges as The President.

My former classmate from high school, Jill Krop, is excellent as a news anchor which is what she does in real life, and you can also learn a lot about earthquake science by watching this movie, mainly that (a) scientists work together by shouting and fighting, (b) computers work fine even when the building is collapsing and (c) it's easy to work out which way to run during an apocalypse.

The two hour debacle opens quite satisfyingly with the Seattle Tower collapsing but after that you'll want to fast-forward through the nauseating turgid emotional set-ups which ultimately fail to gratify your desperate desire to see most of the main cast crushed by falling debris. California does eventually slide into the sea, but it just can't compare to Ava Gardner and Sensurround Sound in the original "Earthquake" movie. There are no large glamorous women wearing big hats in disaster movies anymore. Bring them back.
